Dr. Gotffried M. Heuer’s presentation deals with the historical background to the events shown in the film, specifically with regard to boundary violations and sexual abuse in analysis. It draws distinctions between love relationships and abusive relationships, and indicates the revolutionary aspect of the ‘dangerous method’ of psychoanalysis – and in doing so reclaims the influence of Sabina Spielrein and Otto Gross in the history and development of analytic theory and clinical practice. This workshop will explore material that will deepen our understanding of the early history of psychoanalysis as well as understanding of the transference and counter transference which is now well understood as often being an important component in all relationships as well as therapy.
