For some patients, such as those who suffer from character disorders, the task of tolerating what Betty Joseph referred to as, „the beginning of heartache” is nearly impossible. Drawing from her own clinical practice, as well as the work of Winnicott and Klein, Dr. Kavaler-Adler will discuss some of the factors that support a patient in moving towards the depressive position and the capacity to mourn, including ownership of one’s aggression and grief.
